We open ourselves like the air, and the world flows through us like the wind. We have no boundaries—we are all experience, know, feel—all of which interacts with everything, making us of the entire earth. Through the old ways, we are in harmony with all circumstances—the correct and harmonious course of action is always to be found in us if we are in touch with ourselves. —Gayle High Pine
Hi there, how is your heart feeling today? Does it feel Grounded? Gracious? Weary? Excited? Or a little bit of everything?
Before I dive into this post, I want to remind you of the importance of taking some time before you start your day to connect with the heart. Perhaps you can set intentions, recite affirmations, or simply take a couple of deep breaths to remind yourself that it is a gift to be alive and wake up every day.
Today is day eight of my social media break.
Before the end of April, I’d decided to disconnect to connect deeper—with myself, my environment, and my writing. And to be honest, this feeling had been pulling at my heartstrings for a while; I wonder why it took me so long to disconnect from the online world. Did I fear everything I'd been working towards would fall apart? That people would forget about me, my work? Or was it the loud message society pushes of “no days off,” being “booked and busy,” and “keeping up with social media-demanding algorithms.” It could have been a mix of it all, but as I sit here and reflect, this is the calmest I have felt.
The past four months were like a rollercoaster ride filled with scary moments and really exciting ones. Each experience, each feeling, each smile, and each tear, led me closer to who I am today—to the honest relationship I continue to cultivate with myself. But cultivating this safe space for myself wasn’t always easy.
There was a time when I wished I wasn’t as emotional, or that my heart didn’t feel as deeply. But then, that would be neglecting my gentleness, which makes me, me. And so, I learned to love all parts of me with the same love and gentleness I love others. I had to learn that wearing my vulnerability as a shield and living with an open heart doesn't make me weak—it makes me human. It allows me to see life from a different perspective and approach it with kindness while upholding healthy boundaries.
At the same time, these awakenings of enlightenment did not occur in the light; it was during the uncomfortable moments of dark, deep silence when I had to face my thoughts, the broken parts begging to be heard, to experience the sunlight. By welcoming stillness, I created a safe space for all that I am, and who I want to become. Now, I proudly wear my vulnerability as a shield and walk through life with an open heart, knowing that by doing so, I am helping someone out there become closer to themselves.
What to take from all of this?
Do not be afraid to disappear for a while and fall in love all over again with yourself and everything in life.
create, travel, heal, dance, read, laugh, enjoy the moment.
